Troy is with us 6 months+.He continues to settle in with us and get more comfortable with each day that passes. His behavior is improving, despite still not liking cats and barking at other dogs.
Nollaig and he get on really well. Of course, there is the odd growl and misunderstanding, however they decided to share a kennel, and although there is a bigger one we got especially for Troy, they both squeeze into the little one! It's the funniest thing to see them both trying to get out at the same time, through one little opening!
Troy is still vocal, a singer as John Ward called him at the classes. That said, he is much better then when we got him first. He now stays quiet in the car, and in the house so as long as no cat passes the window!
Of course he still gets into bother sometimes-We went to Mayo for the Oct bank holiday weekend and mum cooked the roast on the Saturday night.....you know where this is going.......yes, he ate it and we think he did have help......Nollaig was not totally innocent the next day when Mum asked where the roast was - We won't make the mistake of leaving any food on the worktop again! To be honest Mom just laughed........Jason and I were buying dinner that day:)
Walking has been a bit uneventful, we have had to stick to the one park near the house here in Tallaght and he's now comfortable with that. We are extending down the local streets with mixed successs, but a walk in a 'new to Troy' forest is a drama we'd rather not have. the result is he gets so worried and stressed, pulls and pulls on the lead, and if he gets free, well.......I waited over an hour one evening calling, up at the Hell Fire Club, and had almost given up when he reappeared at the car. I didn't let him get away again.
We registered Troy with our vet Paul Doherty in Tallaght when we got him, and insured him recently. Troy has had a loose tummy for sometime now, despite a strict diet and a couple of food type changes (On Paul's advice), the situation is not resolving itself. Paul has suggested some tests and we are proceeding down this route after Christmas. Despite all of this he has increased in body weight by 8% and looks muscular!
Jason and I are expecting our first baby in February and although are not walking as much as we did, we are managing well. Troy drags a bit but the halti is helping me, as is the training lead when we get into the park. We are reading around the subject of babies and dogs, the do's and don't's, and putting the recommendations in to practice, we have a really good feeling that Troy will be good with children.
That is the update on the 'Big Fella' as they call him down home in Mayo,and yes despite his escapades last time he got invited for Christmas!
